Already have Halloween plans but still have no idea what to wear? Why not come as high fashion this year, as we look to these timeless icons for some inspired choice styles you definitely want to try. Our shortlist takes you through each look and will leave others wondering why they didn’t think of it themselves.
Anna Wintour Bob, Bangs, & Shades!
The Wintour bob and kitten bangs are all about precision, body, and shape. We suggest you schedule a visit to your favorite stylist for a quick cut. You are going to need those steady hands to get a face-framing chin-length bob that complements your look, and don’t forget the bangs. Now to the style!
Blow-dry for volume and shine
Wintour’s hair is perfection, evenly volumized and shiny without a strand out of place. To get this look, start off with towel-dried hair and apply L'Oréal Huile Original Mythic Oil, ₱ 1,099. This will not only help keep your hair moisturized but also protect it from heat styling. Begin to blow dry using a bore brush. Move under and outward, making sure to curl from your roots to maximize smoothness and volume.
Dust in some dry shampoo
Once dry, add L'Oreal Tecni.Art Super Dust Volumizing Powder, ₱ 750, on your roots. Lightly sprinkle towards the top of the hair to about an inch away from your roots before combing out. This should add more lift. Then just put on a couture dress and thick dark shades - and you’re ready to conquer Halloween fashion!
Ariana Grande High Pony
For this list, we’re looking at iconic and easily memorable looks, and we felt it wouldn’t be much of a list without Ariana Grande’s signature high pony.
Strengthen Hair
If you’ve got a little time left, we encourage a lot of hair love before styling. The key to super long hair like Ariana Grande’s is protection from breakage. So consider encouraging better hair health with some lengthening shampoos, like Kérastase Resistance Extentioniste Shampoo, ₱ 1,750. Formulated with a powerful fusion of amino acids it provides a protective effect on the hair fiber to help ensure visibly healthy and stimulated scalp environment.
Section hair into two layers
Section your hair into two layers, top and bottom. Smoothing out the upper section of your hair with a boar brush or comb. Apply a gel to help keep the hair in place. Try Davines This is a Strong Hold Cream Gel: For Firm Polished Looks, ₱ 995. This way, you can already work on the height without the full weight of your hair. Now secure with an elastic band, then add the bottom half before securing with clips. Apply gel to a strand of hair and tie around the elastics, neatly hiding away the tip with a hairpin.
Pro tip: Spray some hairspray onto a toothbrush and use it to smooth down any flyaway hairs.
Karl Lagerfeld Signature Pony Style
Platinum blondes have a host of styles to choose from for Halloween, but if you’re as big of a fashion fiend as we are, then a nod to the late and great Karl Lagerfeld may be something to try. Many will not forget the iconic designer’s signature white hair and ponytail. His style has had such a wide appeal, celebrities like Kendal Jenner, Rita Ora, and Josh Duhamel have been spotted wearing their version of it as their Halloween costumes in the past years.
Mute out brassiness
To pull off this look you need pale white hair. Shampoo your hair a day (or two) with Bed Head by TIGI Dumb Blonde Purple Toning Shampoo: With Purple Toning Pigment, ₱ 1,500. A color-safe shampoo, it deposits purple pigment to mute out any unwanted brassy tones.
Spray hair in layers to add body and volume
Now that your hair is sufficiently silver, it’s time to add some heft. Layer in some Bed Head by TIGI Sugar Shock: Bodifying Sugar Spray ₱ 1,250, on your dry hair. Great as a 2nd-day re-styler, it tames unruly hair leaving it with extreme texture, fullness and hold.
Tie with a pony
Now partition your hair to one side, tousle and gather the rest of your hair into a black ponytail at the base of your head, fraying it out slightly. Add black shades and voila! Icon achieved. Drive the look even further by wearing a black suit, a stiff high collar, and bejeweled glove.
Jennifer Lopez Flipped Out Hair
Last September, the Jennifer Lopez flipped the internet when she walked on the Versace runway in her iconic green gown. But the look wouldn’t be complete without her simply-styled but perfectly-matched locks pulled back with flipped out tips, giving us an almost modern 60’s flare. The hairstyle is one of the easiest looks to do, now all you’ll need is the dress.
Smooth out hair
Blow-dry your hair or use a flat iron to remove any signs of frizz. Make sure to protect your hair from any heat styling using a hair primer like Davines Liquid Spell, ₱ 1,950, Style it toward the direction of the base of your hair to redirect the roots, this avoids any unwanted strays strands. Then, use a curling iron to curl out the ends of the hair. Set with hairspray.
Finish off with some shine
Finally, add some more shine with Davines This is a Shimmering Mist: For Extraordinary Shine, ₱ 1,250, highlighting your healthy locks.
